We had Direct Drain Services’ drain engineers in Bromley recently to complete drain repairs at Chartham House.
In the grounds of this large privately owned house a sink hole appeared in the middle of a pathway across the rear lawn area. When the pathway collapsed it revealed a large crater beneath.
The property owner advised our drain engineer that the lawn was flooding during heavy down-pours of rain. There were no surface water drains in the close vicinity of the sink hole, so it appeared that all of the surface water would flow to a soakaway concealed in the ground.
Our drain engineer used our specialist CCTV drain survey equipment to enter the drainage system, locate the soakaway and investigate why the sink hole had appeared in the garden.
The CCTV drain survey revealed a collapsed section of the drainage pipework just before it entered the soakway. Our drain engineer excavated and exposed the damaged pipe before completing the necessary drainage repairs.
To complete the work and return the grounds of the garden to a neat and tidy standard our drain engineer then brought in materials to back-fill the sink hole and the space in the ground around the new section of pipework. Once the pipework was securely in place the footpath was reinstated and new turf was laid. As you can see from the pictures, our skilled drain engineer made a very neat job of the reinstating the pathway and laying the turf.
